Another great success for the 16th edition of the Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike Villabassa starting from the number of cyclists participating: 3,648 from 33 nations, thousands of fans and a wonderful sun characterized the town of Alta Pusteria during the all three days.
A trail that winds through the Dolomites, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO last year, did the rest for a wonderful show. The most represented country after Italy was Germany with 263 bikers and follow Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Spain.
The president of the organizing committee, Kurt Ploner, was very satisfied thanking for their cooperation the five towns in Alta Pusteria, Villabassa, Braies, Dobbiaco, Sesto e San Candido, who contributed with a large number of volunteers.
Here's how it went on the competitive front. The short run of 56.9 km (1688 m altitude) was dominated by Klaus Fountain Olang from Alto Adige who crossed the finish line first after 2H13'8. Andreas Laner, winner of last year, was second at the finish with a delay of 2'44". The third place of the young Lukas Platzgummer Naturno with 2H18'04.
In the female category Kellermayr Theresia from Graz, Austria, has triumphed in 2H46'34.
The Italian champion in charge Covre Marika, from Treviso, finished second after a head to head with Kellermayr, with 20 second delay, while Valentina Danese from Vipiteno finished in third place.
The long path of 119.9 km, 3822 altitude, saw a double swiss victory thanks to Urs Huber, 4H50'06" before Mirko Celestino, second, beating Mike Felderer from Val Sarentino. Even in the women category triumphed a swiss biker: Erika Dicht preceded by a period of 5H44'6" the Finnish Pia Sunstedt and the English Sally Bigham third classified.
