Cristian Zorzi was born in Cavalese on August 14th, 1972. He made his debut in the World Cup in 1993, at the 10 km classic technique in Dobbiaco, where he classified 118th. Cristian began to outstand in the late 1990s in the new sprint specialty; quick knockout races on short distances. His first World Cup podium came in 1999, at the Asiago freestyle team sprint (3rd place), his first victory in Lahti's freestyle sprint in 2000. After that, all his World Cup individual podiums have been obtained in freestyle sprint races. Nicknamed "Zorro" because of his lively nature and his last name, thanks to his extraordinary speed in the sprint he has been the last runner of the Italian relay for many years. In 2001 he won the silver medal in the sprint race at the Lahti World Championships. At the 19th Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City 2002 he won a bronze medal (again in the sprint race), and a silver medal, behind Norway, in the 4x10 km relay race. In Turin, at the XX Winter Olympic Games, in 2006, he was the last runner of the Italian relay race who won the gold medal in the 4x10 km. In 2007, along with Renato Pasini, he won the gold medal at the Sapporo World Championships in the freestyle team sprint. In Vancouver 2010, his last Olympic participation, he came 8th in the team sprint and 9th in the relay. He ended his career at the 2010 World Cup. Since the 2010-2011 season he is part of the Italian Marathon Cup team. In 2013 he got a series of good results in some of the most popular and fascinating international Marathons, including the Engadin Ski, the ninth round of the 2013 Fis Marathon Cup. That same year, at the Masters World Cip, he dominated the 10 km freestyle and won, with his team, the Fiamme Gialle, another medal in the 4x7.5km relay at the Italian absolute Championships in Val Formazza.
