Flanked by the ocean and the mountains, it is one of the most beautiful locations in Spain, boasting one of the most luxurious marinas across the world - Puerto Banús - as well. This Andalusian city will be a spectacular host for athletes, as well as their families and friends. All participants will find a wide range of activities in the region and a perfect climate to make the most of their stay.

Athletes will swim in the Mediterranean waters. After the transition, located in the legendary Avenida de las Naciones Unidas, they will cycle the 90 km of the bike course through memorable settings like Puerto de Ojén, ascending along the “caracolillos” road. They will cross different towns like Onda, Coín, and Cártama. Athletes will then ride back to Marbella to enjoy the last 21 km run by the seafront promenade, flanked by cheering spectators as they strive for the finish line - right on the sand of Puerto Banús.

IRONMAN 70.3 Marbella offers 50 qualifying slots for the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France.

1. START WELL-HYDRATED.

In the days leading up to the event, maintain a regular intake of water and mineral salts during the day, especially if you’re travelling. Check that your skin and lips aren’t dry. Keep yourself hydrated at all times - don’t wait until you’re thirsty. This is even more important if you’re not acclimatized to wherever the competition is being held.

 

2. WHILE CYCLING AND RUNNING.

Maintain your hydration and energy levels through regular drinks and supplements:

  • about 150 ml of water and minerals every 15-20 minutes.
  • 30-35 g of a carb mix every 30 minutes (or 60-75 g every hour).

3. AFTER YOU FINISH, START THINKING ABOUT RECOVERY.

A powder mix of carbohydrates, essential amino acids and mineral salts will help your initial recovery. But that won’t be enough: you’ll need to carry on in the hours after the event, through rehydration and consumption of additional sources of carbohydrate (including fruit) and protein.
